YOU AND I

You and I, we have greeted so many!

We are no evil; we chose liberty!

Timeless angels in disguise, we follow

Every single soul and her grand flambeau.

We know who you are and love you. Just be!

Growing with you was Eternity’s gift.

We dwell where inmost aspirations drift.

Let us guide you when it is time to go,

You and I.

Should you fall off, we shall catch you. So, give!

We will always comfort you. So, forgive!

Like the universe and its endless flow,

You will be given Life and Death to grow,

And when all’s said and done, we shall outlive.

You and I.

I WAS THERE BEFORE

They keep on saying that times are changing.

Yet, I believe they just want God’s smite.

They may offer me their best hireling,

Never will I espouse their painful plight.

They preach that Man is weak, that God is fake.

Still, methinks, pride is not love’s recompense.

They may burn my effigies at the stake,

I will aye absolve mortals’ diffidence.

For ages, battles have been waged.

For my sake, nature has been caged.

Yet, in my dreams, I sometimes see

Fine souls whose casus belli

Makes me shiver and disagree

With what the world seems to be.

Why should I smite them? Mistakes are human.

Why should I hate them? I begot their clan.

I was there before and so will I be after.

Therefore, I will give them more time to grow wiser

Then, I shall meet them in the hereafter.

Review by Jennifer Hudock
"Cendrine Marrouat exercises a variety of poetic styles in this collection, from Tanka to freeverse, her voice is a melodic reminder of peaceful wonder that is life and living. While I don't often like to compare poets, this collection reminded me of William Blake on so many levels, which I hope the poet will take as compliment.

Marrouat's unique voice shines through in every rhythm and meter, offering a wealth of spiritual reflection and guidance. This is a truly beautiful collection of poems that will uplift and mesmerize the soul."
